Who doesn’t have the lifelong dream of inventing an international holiday? It all became clear to me in 2020, when expressing gratitude didn’t have as many supply chain issues as it seemingly does today. There’s Valentine’s Day for love, Galentine’s Day for celebrating your galpals but what about saying thanks? Thanksgiving could take care of this, if it weren’t wrought with colonialism, genocide and oppression that still diminishes the welfare of indigenous communities to this very day. Also, the ‘thanks’ in Thanksgiving is often sequestered to a rambling instagram caption or a quick “friends and family’ shoutout while everyone is going around the table saying what they’re grateful for, hoping everyone keeps it brief so they can dig in and do terrible things to the biscuits and gravy boat.
There used to be no way to casually say thank you in a low-key way, without buying someone a gift, until now: Introducing Thankyoutine’s Day! It’s an international holiday that can be celebrated as often as you’d like, at no cost to you. Interested in how to participate? Follow these seven easy steps to celebrate today!
Life is too short to let another day go by without saying thanks to someone, whether it’s for something recently or long overdue. You can’t imagine the joy you’ll bring to someone’s face when they hold your handmade card! It’ll be a memory that will delight them for years to come. I’ve even used postcards before when I didn’t feel like making a card from scratch - the sky is the limit! Let your creativity run free!!
Be well,
Allyson
